I came across Dismaland today, created by talented and unique graffiti artist Banksy, and it was glorious.
A way to perfectly describe this magical place is a beautiful nightmare. An apocalyptic fantasy world where morbid reality shadows and looms over our favourite characters from our childhood storybooks and classic movies.
Though some parts may be creepy and even borderline horrifying, it offers a humorous satirical punk rock commentary on our beloved childhood memories and characters. Banksy made sure to handpick his fave artists to collaborate on the adult amusement park, with works showcased from Damien Herst and Jenny Holzer.
Obviously the first image that caught my eye was the one of Ariel, our cherished little mermaid.

Now for something more disturbing than a rippled glitch of a mermaid, a carousel butcher, hangin’ out. What’s up with those lasagna boxes? Wooden horse lasagna I suppose.

Nothing is more frightening than the idea of death, but somehow seeing this Grim Reaper riding along with that dopey grin gets me going.
And who can forget the epitome of princess femininity, Cinderella, who seems to have had one too many drinks at the ball before rushing home to meet her midnight deadline.

What are your thoughts on Banky’s Dismaland? I for one would definitely love the opportunity to prance around the park, maybe while blasting The Cure on my Iphone.
