2017 was an exciting year for me merbbz, though I am looking forward to taking a deeper dive + more chances in 2018!
There were some pretty memorable fin-tastic moments and new friendships that came to fruition but with those also came some challenges and difficulties that pushed me to the edge. I am thankful for both, because with hardships there are also learnings.
VICE Documentary (on my mer-life!)
When VICE initially reached out to me and told me they were interested in featuring my life in a new doc about secret lives, I was beyond ecstatic. Here was a chance to share my story with the world on how I came to become the oceanholic I am today, and I took it. The shoot happened in the summer over the course of a couple of days and was released out in the fall.
The crew = awesome! We had some great moments + laughs and I introduced them to some vegan hot spots on our breaks.
If you haven’t checked it out yet, have a peek here!
Well I knew that when I landed in Miami and took one look at those lush palm trees and dreamy sand planes on South Beach I had to reach out to a photographer for some magical captures. I was so grateful that I collaborated with talented designers like swimsuit designer Margarita Mermaid, Isabelle Batz and photographer Erika Nelly for such a dreamy project. I still to this day treasure these images, as one of my faves ever.
My first show in 2017 happened the day I left my job. It was a challenge picking up the pieces to put on a brave face and open up for a big artist like Lil’ Debbie, but in retrospect, I am so happy that I was able to pull through and make it happen. There was a wonderful turn out and best of all I got to meet Lil’ Debbie herself backstage for some giggles and mer-bonding (she had blue hair too!). In 2018- my goal is to have more shows, because on stage is truly where I feel like myself.
Mermaid Tights Review
When I first laid my eyes on the Tinker cast scale tights- I nearly lost my shell! I just knew that I had to get a pair for myself and review them for all my fishy friends and the finfolk community. I was blown away by the love I got on those images, on my blog posts and on my YouTube review. They truly are ingenious and unique arts of work that anyone can wear to add a bit of magic to their daily life.
In 2018- I’d like to learn to be more grateful of what I have.. My health, friendships and what I’ve achieved so far. We often spend time comparing ourselves to others and measure our successes this way, but this needs to change ( I am so guilty of doing this!) . We need to live in the moment and look around, even give ourselves a pat on the back for becoming the person we are today, no matter where we’re at.
So here’s a toast to 2018 merbbz, it’s going to be a great year!
